After applying a program update for Troika, the following message is displayed:
There was an error compiling this function. The Visual Basic module contains a syntax error.

This may indicate either, that you have encountered an issue with the registration of a Microsoft component (MSCOMCTL.OCX), or that you are attempting to access Troika using a Microsoft Office 64-bit installation.

Registration of MSCOMCTL.OCX

The MSCOMCTL.OCX registration issue was a known Microsoft issue.  The recommended resolution was to install the latest security updates from Microsoft.

The issue described is where Windows Common Controls embedded ActiveX controls may fail to load correctly; Troika relies on these components and these are required to be registered correctly.

Our Troika support service and system updates rely on you have workstation and server operating systems up-to-date with the latest security updates and service packs from Microsoft.  Before applying any updates made available to you, please ensure you are up to date with Microsoft Office and Windows updates.

The specific issues are described as Microsoft articles here:-

Office 2007 - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2687441

Office 2003 - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2687323

“Fix it for me Office 2010/2007”

Microsoft have as part of these articles also provided a ‘fix it for me’ solution.  Microsoft offer this fix it solution as a workaround option for some scenarios, and this may resolve the issue where Microsoft security updates cannot be applied easily.

Accessing Troika Using a Microsoft Office 64-bit Installation

For most customers, Troika currently requires Microsoft Office 32-bit for accounts production, and integration with Microsoft Word and Excel.  We are aware that some of our Troika users are now requiring Microsoft Office 64-bit internally, but also require continued use of Troika.

In the event you require Microsoft Office 64-bit internally, please refer to the following article for assistance to getting these applications to work side by side:
