Introduction

How to update an existing installation of WealthWorks+

  1. Before applying the WealthWorks+ update check the following setting.  This may already be set to True or if the setting is not there, go to the next step.  Open the site web.config file using Notepad (default location is C:\inetpub\wwwroot\WealthWorksPlus), and in the app settings section find the entry. <add key="owin:AutomaticAppStartup" value="false" />.  If it's there, delete the row, save and close the file.
  2. Download the file release zip file 'WealthWorksPlus4.nn.n.zip' accessed at the bottom the latest WW+ release article. Save the zip file to your server running Internet Information Services (IIS).
  3. Unzip the contents of the zip file and run the WealthWorksPlusInstall.v4.nn.n.msi file found in the MSI folder, to install the WealthWorksPlus virtual directory to your webserver. You will be prompted for the following information: -
    • Website. This is set to the default website when installing WealthWorksPlus but you can select any website you have created or that already exists. There is no requirement that the default website must be used.
    • Virtual Directory. This will default to a Virtual Directory called 'WealthWorksPlus'. If the existing installation has been given a different virtual directory name, please amend the name here.
    • Application Pool. This will default to an application pool called 'WealthWorksPlus'. If the existing installation has been given a different application pool name, please amend the name here.
  4. Click Next. Either leave the default install destination folder as displayed, or amend the path to a different directory. If you amend the path, ensure the new directory has sufficient rights for the application pool and users to access the site.
  5. Click Next. Leave the option to insert a connection string blank for upgrades. The existing site connection strings will be persevered by the upgrade.
  6. At the next screen, a default path for the application log files to be maintained in will be offered. We recommend leaving this path as displayed. If the path is amended, the WealthWorks+ application should have read/write permissions to this folder.
  7.  Click Next to continue and complete the WealthWorks+ installation.
  8. From your SQL Server Management Studio you will need to execute one or more SQL script files. You must ensure you have full database owner rights to the database before running the script. Ensure all Troika users have logged out fully when running the upgrade script and ensure you select the correct database before executing the file.

The Connect SQL Scripts provided all start ConnectScript.v4.x.

  9. If you are upgrading from the previous release of WealthWorks+, execute the Connect upgrade SQL script for this release provided in the folder 'SQL_UPGRADE' on your SQL database.

  10. If you are upgrading from an even earlier release, you will need to execute all connect scripts provided in the folder 'PREVIOUS_UPGRADES' sequentially from release you uninstalled upward, before running the latest Connect upgrade script.  The release Connect Script file names for each version can be found in this article.

  11. The upgrade is now complete. To verify the installation was successful, access WealthWorks+ from the Troika Desktop or Shortcut to the full URL. If using a URL shortcut to access WealthWorksPlus, ensure the full URL contains the DBN= with connection string in this format:  http://WEBSERVER/WealthWorksPlus/login?DBN=CSName

  12. Go to the Options > System Administration > Healthcheck page and check for any red errors in the list of items.  Contact support if any red warning items are listed on the healthcheck
