Overview

For most customers, Troika currently requires Microsoft Office 32-bit for accounts production, and integration with Microsoft Word and Excel.  We are aware that some of our Troika users are now requiring Microsoft Office 64-bit internally, but also require continued use of Troika.

Workaround

Where it is essential a customer uses Microsoft Office 64-bit internally, the current workaround is to install 32-bit applications of Microsoft Access runtime and Microsoft Word (2010 or 2013), in addition to having Microsoft Office 64-bit applications installed (Office 2016/2019/365).  The two applications can work side by side.

You should note that you will be unable to install both 32-bit and 64-bit applications of Office 2016/2019/365 alongside each other.  It would need to be a previous version: 2010 or 2013.

Update:
Please note that Microsoft no longer offer support for either their 2010 or 2013 Office products. As you will be unable to install both 32-bit and 64-bit applications of a supported version of Office alongside each other, it is always preferable for our users to continue using Microsoft's 32-bit Office applications, wherever possible.

Our Development

Recent development has meant that, in some instances, Troika is now set to be installed onto a setup utilising 64-bit MSOffice.

This applies to any client running Troika release 2.09.018 or later, and either:

  • does not use of Troika Accounts Production, or
  • uses Troika Accounts Production for running standard probate accounting formats only, and
  • does not use Troika Time & Billing.

If the above does not apply to your organisation, you should continue using the workaround as mentioned above.  In the meantime, please note we are continuing development work to get our other standard accounting formats into the Troika product, and as these occur, notes will be included in our release notes and this article updated.

If the above does apply to your organisation, and you wish to adjust your Troika setup, please follow instructions here.
