Overview

In some organisations, daily prices are supplied by a third party price feed each day, and included into Troika. Where a client is not taking an automated feed, pricing information can be entered individually or is gathered during the input/administration of an estate. These notes explain how.

Creating a Price File

When creating an Estate in Troika using the Estates – Add menu option, and adding investments within the Load Data menu option, the Troika system will automatically create a blank quarter up price file at the date of death, if one does not already exist. There should be no reason to need to create a new price file manually at this time.

If a price file is already in place as at that same date, Troika will use that existing file and add to it. Price files are unique, and there can only be one of each type of price file on each date (e.g. you cannot have two quarter up files for the same date, but you can have a quarter up and mid-market).

Creating a Price File in Advance of Loading your Estate

It is possible to create a price file yourself, either blank of all pricing, or by using an import file to import a list of prices to form a starting point.

Within the Wealth Management module, and the Investment tab, access the Price Files & Yields menu option. The Price Files and Yields screen will be displayed. Select Create New File.

On the New Prices File Details window, first select the date of the price file you are looking to create. Then make a selection under the Price Type, whether this is a mid-market, quarter up file etc.

In the event you’re using a file to import pricing, click the Edit button to the right of the Use Feed field, to navigate to the location of the file to import.

Click OK to create the new price file.

Click Edit to preview the price file created.

To add/amend any of the prices for investments shown, manually click in the Price for the investment, and type the price:

Click Close to save your price file.

Using Price Files in Estates

Where pricing information exists within a price file which is dated the same as the deceased’s date of death, when entering investment transactions within Load Data (subsections 411 or 412), the unit price will automatically display:

Reviewing an Existing Price File

To review any existing price file which may be set up, within the Wealth Management module, and the Investment tab, access the Price Files & Yields menu option. The Price Files and Yields screen will be displayed.

Any existing price files available will be shown in the bottom right hand corner. A drop down field is available, to make a selection. Once a selection is make, click Edit Prices to review the price file and its contents.

Missing Price Files

There should never be a missing price file for date of death valuations, because creating the estate triggers Troika to set up a quarter up price file for use at the date of death. However, mid-market price file is not set up automatically for use in the administration of the estate, and if not available, you might look to add one in.

Once added, each price file is available for all estates.

Administration Period Valuations

The price file as at date of death will be used for stock valuations.

To report on an updated valuation, use the Estate Details – Edit menu option, Report tab, and select the Cash Estimate report. Ensure the Mkt. Val. check box is checked, and choose an alternative price file from the selections available.

If required, you are able to double click on any price file selected here, to open up a reduced display of the prices within that price file, which are applicable to your estate:

Click Preview to run the report using the revised price list selected.
