Overview

Running the Troika workstation installer configures the program components for Troika Accounts automatically, however should there be a problem with the accounts production process, the following components can be checked.

Required Components

File NameLocationOther details
Paula32.dllC:\windows\system32 or C:\windows\SysWOW64Essential accounts DLL file.  The exact location may differ if 32 bit operating system or 64 bit. Its size should be 352 KB.
Pforms32.dllC:\windows\system32 or C:\windows\SysWOW64Essential accounts DLL file.  The exact location may differ if 32 bit operating system or 64 bit. Its size should be 906 KB.
External.lstC:\TWW\TroikaInstruction files to manage the transfer of data during the export of the Trial Balance from the Wealth Management module. Its size should be 1 KB.
Troika Accounts.dotDefault trusted locations for Microsoft Word templatesWord template file that manages the accounts process and functions.
Troika_Accounts_32-bit.reg or Troika_Accounts_64-bit.regThis file can be run to add or amend registry entries.  This sets the registry entry to locate the External.lst file.  This is usually located in C:\TWW\Troika by default.  These registry entries are created automatically if the Troika installer DVD has been used to install Troika.

The default 'TroikaSQL.ini' file needs to point to the location of the shared accounts folder. For example, AccountPath=T:\Accounts (mapped drive to \\YOURFILESERVER\TWWDATA\).

The path of the 'TroikaSQL.ini' file is stated in the desktop shortcut for starting Troika. For example, C:\TWW\Troika\fpsStart.exe troikasql.ini.

The Troika Wealth Management module will locate Microsoft Word to run the accounts using the standard registry entries. If this needs to be amended for any reason then the 'TroikaSQL.ini' file can point to the location Winword.exe with an override setting. For example, WordPathOverride=C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office11\Winword.exe.

Running the Troika workstation installer configures the program components for ‘Troika Accounts’ automatically, however should there be a problem with the accounts production process, the following components outlined in the document download can be checked.

Troubleshooting Tips

When the installation is incomplete, the accounts process will not work as expected. Results may include errors or just incomplete/incorrect information reported. There are many different things to check.

  • Permissions to the Accounts Directory:
    • Check that security permissions on the accounts directory allows the logged on user to have full control (the location of the accounts directory is specified in the 'TroikaSQL.ini' file with the entry AccountPath= and by default is T:\Accounts).
    • Where the path given to the shared accounts folder here is a full UNC path, but there is also a mapped drive to the same location, use the mapped drive reference to avoid issue.
  • Paula32.dll and Pforms32.dll files:
    • Make sure these are the current dated versions supplied by the thewealthworks, dated 2006. Earlier dated files indicate an out-of-date installer has been used. The current MSI installer will install the correct version of these files. The files should also be available in T:\Resources\Accounts_System_Files.
    • Ensure there are not multiple copies of the .dll files on the workstation, in different paths or folders, accessible by the Microsoft Word accounts formats. Any version of this file older than 2006 are incompatible and should be removed.
  • External.lst:
    • The location of the external.lst file must be shown on the Accounts Preparation menu option in order for the accounts to function correctly. The path is shown at the bottom of the screen, when ‘Show Other Settings’ is clicked.
    • Check that security permissions on the folder/location where the file External.lst is located allows the logged on user to have full control. By default, this is C:\TWW\Troika. Please note, the External.lst file displaying correctly at the bottom of the Accounts Preparation screen, does not necessarily mean that full control has been assigned to the file or folder.
    • Ensure the External.lst file is not blocked. This can be checked within the files ‘Properties’, seen in Explorer.
    • In the event no file path is shown, the registry entry to locate the External.lst file has not yet been set. This is done by running Troika_Accounts_32-bit.reg or Troika_Accounts_64-bit.reg (as appropriate).
  • Troika Accounts.dot template Word add-in:
    • Make sure these are the current version supplied by the thewealthworks. The file should also be available in T:\Resources\Accounts_System_Files.
    • The template document can either be attached to the accounts format from the default Word templates location for your organisation, or from the master T:\Resources\Accounts_System_Files location. If it is not properly attached the accounts will not be produced and the accounts tool bar will not be visible:
    • Ensure users have ‘full control’ rights to whichever folder/location is chosen – not just read/execute.
    • Where the macro setting within Trust Center is set to disable macros, this location must also be entered as a Trusted Location.
    • Ensure there are not multiple copies of the file on the workstation, in different paths or folders, accessible by the Microsoft Word accounts formats. Any versions of this file older than 2012 are incompatible and should be removed.
  • Word Settings:
    • Within Microsoft Word, Word Options, Advanced, under the ‘Cut, copy, and paste’ section, ensure ‘Use smart cut and paste’ is unticked.
    • Within Microsoft Word, Word Options, Display, under the ‘Always show these formatting marks on the screen’ section, ensure ‘Hidden text’ is ticked.

For problems with the Share Schedule not appearing when the accounts are generated, check the following:

  • Can you preview the share schedule from the reports menu option in Troika Wealth Management, and output this to Microsoft Word from the report preview?
